Promoting Contemporary Art and Architecture in Portugal

Serralves

Created in 1989 as a private institution of public utility, Fundação Serralves (the Serralves Foundation) is a cultural institution that aims to raise the public's awareness and appreciation of contemporary art, architecture, and the environment. Through the striking Serralves Museum (designed by award-winning architect Álvaro Siza), the art deco Serralves Villa, and the 44-acre Serralves Park, the foundation offers Portuguese and global audiences significant perspectives into contemporary art, architecture, and environmental landscape. In 2012, the Instituto de Gestão do Património Arquitectónico e Arqueológico (Institute for the Management of Architectural and Archaeological Heritage) classified all of Serralves as a national monument, further protecting the cultural institution for future generations.
