In 1982, the Gate Theatre, located in Notting Hill, added a studio theater above the Latchmere Pub. Twenty years later, that 63-seat venue would be renamed Theatre503 and become an incubator for new writers, officially registering as a nonprofit organization in 2006. Over the years, Theatre503 has served as a launchpad for many writers and nurtured a new generation of playwrights, including Tom Morton-Smith (Oppenheimer, RSC, and West End), Anna Jordan (Bruntwood Prize Winner for Yen, Royal Exchange, Royal Court, and Broadway), Vinay Patel (BAFTA-winning Murdered by My Father), Katori Hall (Mountaintop, West End and Broadway).
Specializing in mentorship and career development while shepherding a writer's words from the page to a full production in front of a live audience, Theatre503's 503 Studio offers courses, masterclasses, dramaturgy services, and taster sessions helmed by award-winning playwrights. In 2023, Theatre503 expanded its creative space with the opening of the 503Studio at Nine Elms.
