Point Lobos State Natural Reserve

The Point Lobos Foundation grew out of the Point Lobos Natural History Association (PLNHA), which was created in 1978 when the California Departent of Parks and Recreation requested that each park establish a cooperating association to raise money to compensate for budget shortfalls. Composed primarily of park rangers and their spouses, the PLNHA raised funds via book sales to create trail guides, educational literature, interpretive materials, and docent-led tours. 

Today, the Point Lobos Foundation is a membership organization with a mission to guard the natural treasures of Point Lobos Natural Reserve, which welcomes more than a million viewers each year and boasts one of the state's most ecologically rich marine habitats. In addition to maintaining the Point Lobos facilities, the organization fills the gaps in funding for trail maintenance and repair as well as the restoration of wildlife habitat. The foundation also supports outreach in area schools, offering underserved children the chance to discover and revel in the wonder of nature.
