Théâtre du Châtelet

The Théâtre du Châtelet opened in 1862 at the Place du Châtelet, directly across the courtyard from its twin building, the Théâtre de la Ville. Originally named the Théâtre Impérial du Châtelet, it has undergone a series of transformations in both name, purpose, and infrastructure in the many decades since its construction. It has also been the site of important moments in musical history, including the premiere of Ravel's ballet Daphnis et Chloé and the recording of Shirley Horn's album I Love You, Paris.

Today, the Théâtre du Châtelet seats 2,500 guests and hosts world-renowned concerts and dance performances. It also offers unique programs to engage audiences of different backgrounds and levels of exposure to the arts; the theater operates interactive workshop courses and offers discounted ticket prices to guests under the age of 28. With its impressive and imposing architectural style and internationally renowned performances, the Théâtre du Châtelet has been at the center of Parisian artistic and cultural life for more than 150 years.
