The Center for Independent Documentary (CID) works with filmmakers to support stories not often told in mainstream media and provides assistance to producers from all regions of the country and in all phases of their projects. CID offers professional development programs and collaboration with other organizations. These programs provide filmmakers with an environment to learn and succeed. CID films have been seen on most major networks and cable channels including, HBO, Discovery and PBS as part of American Masters, American Experience, Independent Lens, and POV.
In 2012, CID partnered with Mélisande Films to produce the documentary "From Hollywood to Nuremburg." The film chronicles the work of three American filmmakers whose footage of the Nazi concentration camps educated the public about the horrors experienced during the Holocaust and came to be used as evidence of guilt during the war trials at Nuremberg. It also examines the way in which the filmmakers' own professional lives in Hollywood were impacted by the critically important footage.
