Bringing Untold Stories into Mainstream Media

Center for Independent Documentary

Established in 1981, the Center for Independent Documentary (CID) works with filmmakers to support stories not often told in mainstream media and provides assistance to producers from all over the globe and in all phases of their projects. CID offers a fiscal sponsorship program that provides filmmakers with access to state, federal and institutional funding in addition to tax-deductible donations. The organization also operates professional development programs that provide creative and technical support as well as assistance with managing funds and preparing funding proposals and marketing strategies. Resources include workshops, screenings, and an annual summer retreat. CID films have been nominated for Academy Awards and have been shown at every major film festival and on such networks as HBO, Sundance, Discovery, and PBS (as part of American Masters, American Experience, Independent Lens, and POV).
