Dia was founded in 1974 with the intention of helping ambitious, cutting-edge artists to bring their big ideas to life. Dia specializes in bringing to fruition projects that otherwise might not have received such necessary institutional support due to their scope or size. In order to fulfill its commitment to artists and artistry, Dia collects works from the 1960s to the present, commissions artists, and facilitates exhibitions and installations. In addition to managing various sites both in the United States and internationally, Dia operates two galleries in New York. Dia:Beacon is located on the banks of the Hudson River and was established in 2003 to display selections from Dia's collection. Dia:Chelsea, in lower Manhattan, hosts temporary exhibitions, readings, lectures, and performances.
