Over the course of 33 years, Simon Rodia constructed the now famous Watts Towers, which is the world's largest single construction by an individual. Since its completion in 1954, the Watts Towers have played an integral role in the culture and heritage of the Watts community in Los Angeles. Founded in 1961, the Watts Towers Arts Center has been inextricably linked to the Watts Towers, serving as a source of cultural enrichment and arts education for several generations within the community. It provides tours, lectures, and classes in multi-media arts, and produce renowned exhibits, all of which attract both local and international attention.
