Preserving Impressionist and Post-Impressionist Masterpieces

Musée d'Orsay

Musée d'Orsay is located in what used to be a bustling Beaux-Arts train station. The train station became a mailing center during World War II and was later renovated to become a movie set. In 1978, the Directorate of the Museum of France recommended that the edifice be transformed into a museum to accompany the world famous Louvre and National Museum of Art. Musée d'Orsay officially opened in 1986 and has hosted nearly 100 million visitors since. Today, the museum features stunning works created by such prominent and influential artists as Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Berthe Morisot, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Paul Cézanne.
