Palazzo Strozzi

Built in the 15th century to serve as the residence of Filippo Strozzi the Elder, Palazzo Strozzi exemplifies the aristocratic palazzi of the Renaissance era. The prominent banker set out to create Florence's "largest and finest palazzo," but he died before it was completed. His children moved into the palazzo in 1505 and the residence remained in the family until 1937, when it was purchased by the Instituto Nazionale delle Assicurazioni.

After a multi-year renovation, Palazzo Strozzi was transformed into Florence's biggest and most influential exhibition venue. Today, Palazzo Strozzi hosts exhibitions including art that ranges from the High Renaissance masterpieces of Leonardo da Vinci to the contemporary masterworks of Ai Weiwei. The institution also engages in extensive cultural programming and arts education while staging public debates and events that investigate major contemporary issues, including the evolving relationship between art and culture. Further, it hosts professional training and conferences, as well as educational programming for families, youth, schools and universities.
