Lycée Français de New York

The Lycée Francais de New York was established in the midst of the Great Depression by Mr. Charles de Ferry de Fontnouvelle, the Consul General of France in New York. What began in 1935 as a high school for 24 students housed in a small basement has grown to a renowned institution that has educated nearly 35,000 students representing 150 nationalities.

The Lycée's students – ranging in age from those in its nursery program to students in the 12th grade – undergo a rigorous, bilingual curriculum, while upper school students participate in intense preparation for a baccalaureate program in French. This interdisciplinary academic model is paired with athletics, community service learning, and extracurricular clubs in the arts, computer programming, government, engineering, and more. At every level, the Lycée is committed to the vision of its founder – that "A school should be more than simply a provider of intellectual nourishment." It is according to this philosophy that the Lycée approaches the task of molding students who are prepared for the complexities and multiplicities in a 21st-century world.
