Integrating Technology into the Academic Curriculum

Mooresville Graded School District

The Mooresville Graded School District (MGSD) is nationally recognized for a technological initiative in which all kindergarten and first-grade students are given iPads to use at school, second- and third-grade receive a MacBook Air to use at school, and fourth- through 12th-grade students are given a MacBook Air to use at home and school. Further, all classrooms are equipped with SmartBoards to be used during class lessons. With this innovative program — and the school's dedicated faculty — MGSD produces impressive academic outcomes and encourages students to participate in volunteer and work opportunities outside of the classroom. In 2013, President Barack Obama visited Mooresville Middle School, spoke about the importance of technology in the classroom, and announced an education initiative that aims to connect 99 percent of the nation's schools to high-speed internet service within five years.
