Founded by legendary choreographer George Balanchine, the School of American Ballet trains more students to become professional dancers than any other school in the country. Every year, approximately 600 students between the ages of 6 and 19 train during Winter Term, SAB's ten-month, core training program. An additional 400 students participate in SAB's three summer intensives. Each year, advanced SAB students are offered positions with ballet companies across the globe. Today, 96% of the New York City Ballet's roster is comprised of SAB alumni.
Central to SAB's work is its commitment to representing cultural and racial diversity, expanding access to its programs, and offering financial support to students. A longtime contributor to SAB, Gregory Annenberg Weingarten established the GRoW Fellowship in 2016 to support talented dancers of color from the Los Angeles region. The Fellowship offers scholarship support to underwrite the cost of tuition, room and board, and student services.
