School of American Ballet

Founded by legendary choreographer George Balanchine in 1934, the School of American Ballet trains more students to become professional dancers than any other school in the country. Every year, approximately 600 students between the ages of 6 and 18 study during Winter Term, SAB's core training program that runs from September through June. An additional 400 students participate in SAB's three summer intensives. Each year, advanced SAB students are offered positions with ballet companies around the world. Today, 96 percent of the New York City Ballet's roster is composed of SAB alumni.

SAB is committed to representing cultural and racial diversity, expanding access to its programs, and offering financial support to students. A longtime contributor to SAB, GRoW founder Gregory Annenberg Weingarten established the GRoW Fellowship in 2016 to support talented dancers of color from the Los Angeles region. The fellowship offers scholarship support to underwrite the cost of tuition, room and board, and student services.
