The University of California Los Angeles Graduate School of Education and Information Studies (UCLA GSE&IS) is one of the university's oldest schools, established in 1939 only 20 years after the university's founding. Today, the Departments of Education and Information Studies are international leader in the studies of education and information. The Department of Education's graduate school, ranked the best graduate education program in the nation, is a leader in the study of urban education and the training of educators committed to social justice. The Department of Education offers an array of both academic and professional graduate degrees for researchers, teachers, school administrators, and educational psychologists. Similarly, the Department of Information Studies is at the forefront of examining the intersections of informational institutions, technology, and culture. Like the Department of Education, it is guided by a vision of global social justice and its two graduate degree programs are ranked among the best in the nation. In addition to the Department of Education and the Department of Information Studies, GSE&IS also houses 18 renowned research institutes and regularly partners with UCLA's Lab School, two UCLA community schools, and eight public LAUSD schools.
