Established in 1939, the University of California Los Angeles School of Education & Information Studies (UCLA Ed&IS) is one of the university's oldest institutions. Today, the Department of Education's graduate school is an international leader in the study of urban education and the training of educators committed to social justice, offering an array of both academic and professional graduate degrees for researchers, teachers, school administrators, and educational psychologists. Similarly, the Department of Information Studies is at the forefront of examining the intersections of informational institutions, technology, and culture. Like the Department of Education, it is guided by a vision of global social justice, and its two graduate degree programs are ranked among the best in the nation. In addition to the Department of Education and the Department of Information Studies, Ed&IS also houses 18 research institutes and regularly partners with UCLA's Lab School, two UCLA community schools, and eight public LAUSD schools.
