The Yale University Art Gallery, located on the university's campus in New Haven, Connecticut, is dedicated to serving Yale students, faculty, alumni, and the wider public. At the heart of the Gallery's work is its permanent collection from artist John Tumbull, who in 1832 donated more than 100 of his paintings of the American Revolution and gave rise to the establishment of the first art museum on a college campus. In the centuries since then, the collection has grown to include more than 250,000 pieces representing the breadth of the globe in space and time. Beyond holding and protecting this repository of great art, the Gallery stimulates active learning and creative inquiry through carefully curated exhibitions and expansive educational programming. These programs are designed to inspire audiences of all ages and encourage curiosity of art and artists from the past and the present.
