Nurturing a Passion for Nature

National Park Foundation

Chartered by Congress in 1967, the National Park Foundation (NPF) is the lone national charitable nonprofit organization designed specifically to support the National Park Service. The NPF works to preserve the country's 431 national parks and historically significant sites that span more than 85 million acres across all 50 states and welcome nearly 320 million visitors annually. The foundation is deeply committed to broadening visitor access to the country's natural wonders. Through signature initiatives including Every Kid in a Park (EKIP) and SAMO Youth, NPF respectively provides free access to national parks for fourth-grade students and their families, and a youth-mentoring program that offers high school students from park-deficient areas of Los Angeles the opportunity to work as "junior rangers" for two consecutive summers, creating opportunities for future internships and jobs.
