The United States Foundation for the Commemoration of the World Wars supports the work of the newly established U.S. World War One Centennial Commission. The Commission was created under President Obama's administration in 2013 in anticipation of the 100th anniversary of World War One. It serves as the central facilitator to engage the public, private, and nonprofit sectors in widespread activities commemorating and educating the audience about the Great War. The Commission's Honorary Chairs include the four living former Presidents of the United States, as well as high-ranking former Cabinet members. One of the Commission's primary purposes is to develop recommendations for the current Presidential administration and Congress regarding the centennial commemoration. In addition to organizing events and disseminating knowledge, the Commission is building a National World War One Memorial in Washington D.C.'s Pershing Park to honor the 4.7 million Americans who served in the war.
