Penn Museum has a strong education department which reaches diverse communities across the state. Its four-stage School Outreach Program provides interactive, comprehensive exposure to the cultures of ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Rome. Not only are these cultures well-represented in the museum's collection, but they also align directly with Common Core curricula, so the visits will enhance what students are learning in the classroom. In addition to guided tours, interactive experiments in the Museum offer a hands-on introduction to ancient cultures. For instance, a "mummification ceremony" workshop teaches essential elements of Egyptian beliefs, as well as the STEM concepts involved. Participating students and teachers also receive a one-year Household Membership at the Penn Museum, so they can continue visiting and learning.
