Grand Palais

The construction of the Grand Palais began in 1897 as part of the Universal Exposition of 1900, the world fair held in Paris. Upon completion in 1900, the Grand Palais drew widespread attention for its architectural blend of steel, stone, and glass that blended classicism and modernity, as well as its diverse decorative artwork. The Grand Palais served as a military hospital in World War I, was damaged during a fire in 1944, received historic monument status in 2000, and underwent significant renovations in the early 21st century.

Located on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, the Grand Palais draws 2 million annual visitors who enjoy its impressive events and exhibitions. The institution closed for a massive renovation in 2021, and it will reopen partially in 2024 in time for the Summer Olympics and the Paralympic Games before fully reopening in 2025.
