LACMA

Prior to its establishment as an arts-focused institution, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) was part of the Los Angeles Museum of Science, History, and Art. In 1965, LACMA separated and relocated to a building on Wilshire Boulevard, where it remains today on a sprawling 20-acre campus that attracts over a million visitors each year. Its halls are lined with constantly evolving exhibitions spanning cultures, eras, and media, as well as famed permanent installations such as Urban Light and Levitated Mass. The museum is a leader in innovative educational programming, research, and arts conservation, engaging learners who range from curious toddlers to elite academics. LACMA is constantly transforming and improving its museum's campus, with the David Geffen Galleries set to open in 2024. The David Geffen Galleries' design, stretching across Wilshire Boulevard horizontally, reflects LACMA's belief in the non-hierarchical nature of history's diverse works of art and rejection of the notion of "higher" or "lower" art movements.
