In 1970, the Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC) began producing off-off-Broadway shows. Through the years, it has evolved into one of Broadway's most highly regarded theatres. Under its current leadership, the MTC is committed to the creation of new plays and musicals through an intensive Artistic Development Program. MTC's many awards include 27 Tony Awards, seven Pulitzer Prizes, 48 Obies and 40 Drama Desk awards. The MTC also has an Education Program that strives to enrich the lives of students by offering workshops that enliven the theatre-going experience.
