Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Met, as it is known around the world, was founded in 1870. Since then, it has become one of the world's most prominent art institutions. Today, the Met is comprised of three locations: The Met Fifth Avenue, The Met Breuer, and The Met Cloisters, with the impressive Fifth Avenue as the museum's primary location. All three locations combined are home to millions of significant works of art.

The Met's Fifth Avenue location is the most-visited museum in the United States, offering dozens of exhibitions, lectures, and educational programming year-round. The Met Breuer is dedicated to modern and contemporary art and The Met Cloisters features the art and architecture of Medieval Europe. At these three locations, the Met encourages access to prestigious works of art, fosters educational programming for families and students, and produces cutting-edge research.

There is a long and rich history between the Annenberg Foundation and The Met, which Gregory Annenberg Weingarten has continued to this day. In 1991, Gregory's grandfather, the late Ambassador Walter H. Annenberg, announced he would bequeath his rare collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist collection of paintings to the Met, worth at the time over $1 billion. This collection would come to be known as the Annenberg Collection, a centerpiece of The Met's holdings, and "one of the most remarkable gifts ever made to The Met…."
