Showcasing American Artistry for the Ages

Whitney Museum of American Art

Since its founding in 1931, the Whitney Museum of American Art, commonly known as the Whitney, has served as a leading institution dedicated to the preservation and exhibition of 20th-century and 21st-century American art. The museum has grown from a collection of 600 works to 21,000 pieces created by more than 3,000 American artists. The Whitney's focus on works created by living Americans exposes patrons to relatively young or unknown artists. Through world-class exhibitions, events, and educational programming that cater to families, young children, teenagers, and communities, the Whitney aims to increase access to its unparalleled contemporary American art collection.
