Originally privately owned, the Beach House property has served as a vibrant cultural and artistic hub in the heart of oceanfront Santa Monica since the 1920s. After being damaged in the 1994 Northridge earthquake, the edifice was revitalized with the assistance of the Annenberg Foundation and the leadership of its Chairman, CEO and President, Wallis Annenberg. With this restoration, the property was transformed into a sustainable, accessible, public recreational center, complete with a beachside pool, classes, and community events.
In addition to its beautiful public pool, the Beach House offers group activities, including volleyball, yoga, and paddle-boarding. The property is also host to countless conferences, weddings, parties, and social events throughout the year. Not only is the Beach House a source of joy and liveliness for families from all over the world, it is also widely recognized for its innovative leadership in sustainability. The property has been recognized with a Gold LEED rating from the U.S. Green Building Council and is continually making improvements to increase environmental efficiency.
