Reintroducing Balanced and Active Play to Children

KaBOOM!

Founded in 1996, KaBOOM! seeks to support youth in underserved communities who struggle with such health issues as obesity, suicidal and depressive tendencies, and cognitive disorders. As a result of combined health and economic factors, many children struggle to succeed in school, exhibit less creativity, and have trouble making social connections. KaBOOM! believes that there is an underlying reason: Today's youth lead significantly less active lives than previous generations, and they have traded in playtime for screen time.

Studies show that children who spend more time actively playing lead healthier lifestyles, better succeed in classroom settings, more quickly develop social skills, and maintain stronger relationships with caregivers. To that end, KaBOOM! encourages families to support their children to lead more active lifestyles and helps to provide them with a larger infrastructure in order to do so. Through collaborations with community and national partners, the organization assists cities with implementing the Play Everywhere concept in innovative locations, especially in urban centers, putting kids on track for happiness and success.
