Fostering Critical Intercultural Conversations

Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education

The Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education (OJMCHE) began in 1989 as a "museum without walls," when Rabbi Joshua Stampfer led a community conversation about the need for an institution to preserve the legacy of Jewish life in Oregon. The organization exhibited collections related to Jewish life at a variety of venues in the state before finding a (walled) home in the Montgomery Park building in Portland.

In 2014, the museum merged with the Oregon Holocaust Resource Center and changed its name to the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education. Since the fusion of these two organizations, OJMCHE has deepened its dedication to preserving Jewish cultural history and passing along the painful and powerful lessons of the Holocaust so that history is never repeated. Through its exhibits and educational programming, OJMCHE encourages visitors to engage in intercultural conversations, foster an appreciation for Jewish culture, and advocate for a world free of injustice or discrimination.
