A Place Called Home

A Place Called Home (APCH) was founded in 1993 in the wake of the Los Angeles uprising a year prior and the rise of crime rates. What began as an informal safe space for teenagers to study and spend time with friends evolved into a comprehensive service provider for youth, from elementary school to young adulthood, as well as their families.

APCH's artistic, educational, counseling, and mentorship programs serve hundreds of community members each day. Every year, APCH provides financial support to more than 100 first generation college students and distributes more than $1.2 million worth of food, clothing, and other essential items to the community. This holistic approach encourages educational achievement, reduces gang participation, fosters positive community relationships, and empowers both youth and families. In the years since its founding, APCH has evolved from an after-school safehouse to a staple in the South Los Angeles community with a profoundly transformative impact on the lives that it touches.
