Formally created in 1998, the Honolulu Emergency Services Department on the Hawaiian island of O'ahu oversees emergency medical services for the city-county of Honolulu's population of nearly 1 million residents, as well as the many tourists who visit the island. The agency integrates cutting-edge drone technology into its critical work, which includes responding to nearly 100,000 medical emergencies every year. In addition to offering emergency services led by 911 dispatchers, paramedics, and EMTs, the Honolulu Emergency Services Department embeds itself in the community by giving presentations to students in area schools, attending health fairs to educate the public about the EMS system, and recruiting new team members through career fairs.
