Opening Doors from the Streets to Safety

Covenant House

With locations in five countries — including in 34 cities across the United States — Covenant House supplies housing solutions and resources to 1.5 million young people through its innovative strategies. The organization, which was established in 1972, offers programming including Street Outreach, Intermediate Care, and Rights of Passage, which provide direct outreach to unhoused youth unable to access resources independently, short-term housing and crisis management, and assistance with the transition to long-term independent living. Covenant House's education and prevention programming centers on health care, juvenile justice, and a living wage — factors that can contribute to homelessness in under-resourced communities. In addition, cities across the country host annual Sleep Out events where thousands of families, community organizations, and volunteers spend the night outside to raise awareness and lifesaving funds for unhoused youth.
