Using Creative Grantmaking to Support Comprehensive Solutions

Elton John AIDS Foundation

Despite the progress made in recent decades to combat the AIDS epidemic, millions of lives are derailed each year by the disease. Established in 1982 by legendary singer/pianist/composer Elton John, the Elton John AIDS Foundation believes in a multifaceted approach to this crisis through collaboration between government policies, social programs, scientific innovations, and health care aimed at comprehensive prevention and treatment. Through dynamic grantmaking across the globe, the Elton John AIDS Foundation supports a variety of unique and innovative programs — oriented in health, education, or advocacy — that strive to alleviate suffering for individuals living with HIV/AIDS, educate communities about prevention methods, and realize a future with significantly reduced instances of infection.

Based in New York City and London, the foundation prioritizes providing flexible aid to marginalized communities that are disproportionately impacted by HIV/AIDS, including gay and bisexual men, transgender people, Black women and men, incarcerated populations, and injection drug-users. By encouraging those suffering from HIV/AIDS to lead the fight against it, the foundation empowers them to regain their own confidence and simultaneously improve others' quality of life. This dually preventative and reactive support stretches to all corners of the globe.
