Launching Culinary Careers for Women

Hot Bread Kitchen

Hot Bread Kitchen is the brainchild of Jessamyn Rodriguez, an educator and social entrepreneur who started the organization in 2008 to support immigrant women and people of color by opening new pathways to professional opportunities in the culinary industry. Her mission is to fulfill career ambitions and build lasting economic security for women, gender-expansive people, immigrants, and people of color. While the organization funds about two-thirds of its operating budget through bread sales and kitchen rental, philanthropic support makes it possible to provide participants with educational programs and training in food industry practices. The organization offers job skills training, food entrepreneurship programs, and a supportive regional network through a flexible service model that caters to individual needs. Since its founding, Hot Bread Kitchen has generated more than $100 million in economic impact in the New York City area.
