The Houston Independent School District (HISD) contains 287 early childhood, elementary, middle, and high schools, making it the largest school district in the state of Texas.  HISD is a two-time recipient of the Broad Prize award, in recognition of the significant gains the school district has made in the achievements of its 216,000 students.
