Fighting for a Cure

UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center

In the 1960s, a group of scientists and volunteers from UCLA joined forces with a single goal: to develop a state-of-the-art cancer center that would lead the way in education, research, and patient care. In 1976, the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center became Southern California's first comprehensive cancer center, the highest possible designation from the National Cancer Institute and held by only 53 centers across the nation. Today, with more than 500 scientists and physicians, the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center has been widely recognized for its rigorous, transdisciplinary research and high-quality patient care. Beyond advancing the study and treatment of cancer, the center's education and training programs are shaping the next generation of changemakers in these fields.
