Chasing a Cure for T1D

JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

JDRF (formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) was founded in 1970 by a group of parents whose children were suffering from type 1 diabetes (T1D). Although the disease was often referred to as "juvenile diabetes" in the 1970s, we know today that approximately 85 percent of patients are above the age of 18. Since its establishment, JDRF has envisioned a world free of T1D and has committed itself to accelerating breakthroughs in the cure, prevention, and treatment of the disease. With dozens of office locations across the United States and six international affiliates, JDRF has raised more than $2 billion to support research into such breakthroughs. Beyond fundraising, JDRF tirelessly advocates for the allocation of federal funding and the creation of health policies sensitive to the needs of those most affected by the disease.
