The National WWII Museum opened its doors in New Orleans on June 6, 2000 – the 56th anniversary of D-Day. In 2003, the Museum was designated as America's official National WWII Museum by Congress. The Museum's range of multimedia programs and exhibitions incorporates historical narratives and first-hand, personal experience in order to explore America's role in the Second World War. The Museum's extensive campus includes the Louisiana Memorial Pavilion, the Solomon Victory Theater, the Campaigns of Peace: European and Pacific Theaters, the US Freedom Pavilion: The Boeing Center, the Founders Plaza, and the John E. Kushner Restoration Pavilion. The Museum frequently hosts special events, including family and educational programming, and offers a research guide for individuals seeking to locate a family member who served in World War II.
