Revealing the West's Rich History

Autry Museum of the American West

Founded in 1988 as the Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum, the Autry Museum of the American West endeavors to share the stories of all people and communities who make up the American West to better inform and educate visitors on the region's rich history. Today, the institution — which merged with the Southwest Museum of the American Indian and the Women of the West Museum — is home to more than 500,000 art objects and artifacts that embody the diverse communities that have inhabited the region over centuries. These collections are distributed across three locations in the L.A. area: the Autry Museum in Griffith Park, the Historic Southwest Museum Mt. Washington Campus, and the Resources Center of the Autry in Burbank. In addition, the Autry offers extensive events, programs, and outreach to bring to life the ways in which the West's history has shaped both the country and the world.
