With a team of more than 40 staffers, Immigrant Defenders Law Center (ImmDef) is a premier immigrants' rights organization located in the heart of Los Angeles. ImmDef's expert services include legal representation, community education, and advocacy. The organization uses a unique universal representation model, by which it accepts the most marginalized of immigrants as clients regardless of eligibility for relief.
ImmDef operates the Adult Representation Project and Children's Representation Project, both of which represent individuals who are being held in detention facilities. Many of the clients served by the Adult Representation Project struggle with mental illness. Additionally, ImmDef and the University of Southern California's Gould School of Law have partnered to form the Post-Conviction Relief Fellowship, which offers representation for immigrants involved in the criminal justice system. Each year, ImmDef provides representation to 600-plus immigrants and serves more than 1,300 unaccompanied minors in detention centers.
