Royal Shakespeare Company

Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) was established in 1875 when Charles Flower donated a building site in Stratford-upon-Avon, just outside of London. His idea was that every town should have a permanent subsidized company of actors. Since its founding, RSC has experienced many milestones, including renovations to the building, the appointment of a Royal Charter, and an expansion of the organization's theatrical repertoire. Today, RSC's renditions of the works of Shakespeare, Shakespeare's contemporaries, and today's writers reach an audience of over 1 million people annually across the globe through touring, residencies, and live broadcasts. However, these performances are merely one element of the organization's impressive breadth of work. In addition to their productions, RSC provides an immersive educational program for over 500,000 students each year. Through this work, RSC welcomes students and emerging professionals from diverse backgrounds to enjoy, participate in, and find a future in the world of Shakespeare and theater.
