Adjusting Ancient Ideals for a Modern Jewish Community

Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue

For nearly 40 years, the Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue has offered the Los Angeles Jewish community a Reconstructionist approach to Judaism. The Center's programs and events, hosted in the idyllic beach-side community of Malibu, embody its reverence for Judaism's past as well as its passion to adapt the religion to today's modern world. Notably, the organization's commitment to serving the Jewish community spans generations. The innovative Religious School Program and B'Nai Mitzvah Preparation primarily serve the children of the congregation's families, while the Adult Education and Torah Study courses meet the needs of members seeking to learn later in life. Furthermore, the Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue embodies inclusivity, from identity-based events like the LGBTQ+ Passover Seder to accessibility-driven programming like Hand to Hand, a social program for young adults with disabilities. Above all else, the Center strives to make its facilities – and the religious ideals it embodies – accessible to all who seek to learn, experience, and grow.
