Clínica Monseñor Oscar A. Romero, often referred to as Clínica Romero, was established in 1983, when a coalition of Salvadoran civil war refugees and volunteer physicians pledged to meet the needs of their fellow community members in Los Angeles. Inspired by the life of Archbishop Romero of El Salvador, Clínica Romero offers compassionate and culturally competent health care, regardless of a patient's insurance status or ability to pay.
The clinic's two locations in Boyle Heights and Pico-Union offer crucial medical services in behavioral health, dentistry, primary care and disease prevention, pharmacy, and vision care. Beyond these comprehensive medical services, Clínica Romero provides intensive substance-abuse disorder treatment and outpatient services for adults and youth, programs for women and children, and partnerships to meet the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness. Through these programs, as well as through extensive health education and community outreach work, the clinic embodies the belief that health care is a human right.
