Supporting the Families of Firefighters on the Front Lines

Widows, Orphans, and Disabled Firefighters Fund

The Widows, Orphans, and Disabled Firefighters Fund was founded more than a century ago to support the families of Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters injured or killed in the line of duty, or experiencing other serious crises. The fund provides these families with various forms of critical support, including financial aid for basic living expenses and health insurance, memorial scholarships for the children of firefighters, and durable medical equipment for firefighters struggling with injuries or chronic illnesses. The fund also provides occasion-specific financial support, such as funeral assistance and holiday bonuses. In addition, the Widows, Orphans, and Disabled Firefighters Fund helps underwrite the operations of support groups for the families of firefighters. These resources for the families of Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters have become all the more important in recent years, as firefighters in the region have faced increasingly-dangerous and destructive wildfires.
