Ventura County Community Foundation

The Ventura County Community Foundation was founded in 1987 to promote collective impact by connecting donors to community members and important causes. The foundation is committed to investing in the future through scholarships, grantmaking, and collaborative partnerships. Though its funding portfolio is diverse, the foundation operates several focused projects, including the Caregiving Initiative and Transfer of Wealth in Ventura County report. The Caregiving Initiative was created in response to the county's shifting age demographics to develop an infrastructure for reliable, affordable, long-term care for older adults. The Transfer of Wealth in Ventura County report examines the far-reaching effects of wealth accumulation and the role philanthropy can play in transforming the region's future at the systemic level.

In recent years, Ventura County, like much of Southern California, has suffered through increasingly large and devastating wildfires. In 2018, when the Hill and Woolsey wildfires broke out within minutes of each other, the Ventura County Community Foundation established the Hill Fire/Woolsey Fire Sudden and Urgent Needs Effort Fund to support the immediate needs of local nonprofit organizations serving victims of the fires. Together, the two wildfires scorched more than 100,000 acres of land in Ventura and Los Angeles counties and destroyed more than 1,600 structures. Through GRoW @ Annenberg, Gregory Annenberg Weingarten joined forces with his fellow trustees at the Annenberg Foundation in providing much-needed support to assist in wildfire recovery efforts for the region.
