Elevating the Significance of LA's Libraries

Library Foundation of Los Angeles

The Library Foundation of Los Angeles was established in 1872 to support Los Angeles Public Library's (LAPL) multiple branches and programs across the city. The Foundation believes that a library is at the very heart of a community's cultural, educational, and democratic landscape. It is this vision that guides the Foundation's support for LAPL's central location in Downtown Los Angeles – the third largest central library in the nation – and its 72 branches. From the We Read Together program for preschool-age children, to the ALOUD event series promoting imaginative creativity, to Student Zones that offer children and teenagers homework resources and assistance, LAPL strives to uplift and empower all Angelenos. Among its countless programs, LAPL also offers adult literacy services, college-readiness preparation assistance, reading challenges, and health education services. Beyond collecting and providing critically important access to knowledge, the Library Foundation of Los Angeles ensures that LAPL addresses the multiplicity of needs and challenges facing Angelenos for generations to come.
