Elevating the Importance of L.A.'s Libraries

Library Foundation of Los Angeles

The Library Foundation of Los Angeles was established in 1872 to support Los Angeles Public Library's (LAPL) branches and programs across the city. The foundation believes that a library is essential to a community's cultural, educational, and democratic landscape, and this vision guides the organization's support for LAPL's main location in downtown L.A. — the third-largest central library in the nation — and its 72 branches.

From the We Read Together preschool program to the ALOUD lecture series to Student Zones that offer homework resources and assistance, LAPL strives to empower all Angelenos. LAPL also offers adult literacy services, college-readiness preparation assistance, reading challenges, and health education services. Beyond collecting and providing access to knowledge, the Library Foundation of Los Angeles ensures that LAPL addresses the multiplicity of needs and challenges facing Angelenos for generations to come.
