Prototypes is a Los Angeles-based organization that has provided multifaceted health, mental health, and substance abuse services to women, children, and their families and communities for more than four decades. Founded in 1986, Prototypes was created to offer gender-responsive treatment that addressed co-occurring conditions and underlying trauma. Since its establishment, Prototypes has expanded rapidly both geographically and programmatically, opening centers across Los Angeles, Orange, and Ventura Counties and offering HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment services, transitional and permanent housing, detoxification programs, and more. In 2000, Prototypes began offering specialized services to men in response to community need levels. In this way, the organization is dedicated to providing high-quality, evidence-based, and affordable responsive care. Today, Prototypes is one of the United States' leading integrated social service providers and as a "prototype" for similar organizations across the country.
