The Alliance for Strong Families and Communities was founded in 1911 under the name the Association for Societies for Organizing Charity, endeavoring to share information between charity organizations, raise standards of operations, and prevent poverty. Over the last century, the organization has changed its focus and name several times in response to economic and social conditions. In 2015, it became the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities and has since prioritized building high-impact organizations across the country that contribute to its vision of a healthier and more equitable future.
Today, the Alliance's membership includes direct service organizations, state associations, foundations, universities, and for-profit organizations. Though diverse, these members are bound by a shared desire to help individuals and families achieve their full potential. They do so by providing programs in education, counseling, workforce development, adoption and foster care, neighborhood revitalization, civic engagement, and advocacy. Additionally, the Alliance serves as a thought leader for the nonprofit sector. With robust online learning opportunities that include courses, webinars, and conferences, the Alliance seeks to drive best practices in the sector and promote organizational excellence.
