The Morgan Library & Museum

The Morgan was born from the private collection of financier John Pierpont Morgan (J.P. Morgan), which he began assembling in the late 19th century. Eleven years after Morgan's death in 1913, his son, J.P. Morgan Jr., realized his father's lifelong dream and transformed the private collection into a public institution.

Located in Manhattan, the Morgan is home to one of the world's most impressive collections of rare materials from the European and American traditions, including historical, illuminated, literary, and musical manuscripts, early printed books, early children's books, and old master drawings and prints. The institution is committed to the display, interpretation, preservation, and study of these materials. Through unique exhibitions, extensive public programs, and important research, the Morgan embodies its core vision: that meaningful engagement with art, history, literature, and music has the power to foster understanding, change minds, and enrich lives.
