Every year, more than 500,000 American children face life-threatening diseases and experience devastating obstacles on the road to recovery. HopeKids strives to assist sick children and their entire family, with special attention to the brothers and sisters of these patients; research has shown that patients can greatly impact their siblings' school performance, behavior, and mental health. In addition to coping with the emotional toll of caring for a sick child, families face financial burdens that threaten their wellbeing and stunt the opportunity for healing.
Through its seven chapters across the country, HopeKids also funds and hosts activities such as attending sporting events or visiting amusement parks so families can enjoy an escape from their adversities. In addition, the organization covers the cost of essential services including transportation and haircuts to provide some relief from overwhelming medical bills. HopeKids' goal is to provide comprehensive emotional, financial, and spiritual support to patients and their communities.
