Zócalo's mission to create a welcoming intellectual space and engage a new and diverse generation in the public square is critical in today's social and political climate, where our public sphere and global digital conversations have become increasingly polarizing. Founded in Los Angeles in 2003, Zócalo Public Square is an ASU Knowledge Enterprise creating unhindered opportunities that promote conversation between people from all demographics. In 2022, Zócalo stories were syndicated in 290 media outlets worldwide, including the Los Angeles Times. Since its founding, Zócalo has hosted more than 650 events in 33 cities across the globe. As a nonprofit organization, Zócalo frequently partners with educational, cultural, and philanthropic institutions and public agencies.
